Join Our Board of Trustees

Museum trustee recruitment is an important process for the future of many institutions.
Pen Museum Trustee Recruitment
Trustees play an important and central role in the leadership of the Pen Museum, we value greatly the experience, objectivity, expertise, and commitment Trustees bring, without remuneration, purely in the interests of the Museum.
The Pen Museum is seeking to further strengthen the Board of Trustees and is particularly keen to recruit Trustees from Collection Management/Interpretation backgrounds.
As a Trustee of the Pen Museum in Birmingham, you will help ensure the charity is well-run, sustainable, and delivering public benefit in line with its charitable objects. Working collectively as part of the Board, you will contribute to the strategic direction, good governance and oversight of the museum’s operations and fundraising needs within your networks.
This is a hands-on, rewarding role in a small, passionate organisation. Trustees bring their individual skills and perspectives while sharing collective responsibility for the success and sustainability of the Museum.
Trustee Attendance Expectation To ensure effective oversight, informed decision‑making, and meaningful engagement with our work, in‑person attendance at the museum in Birmingham is the preferred and strongly favoured mode of participation for all trustees. Trustees are expected to attend scheduled meetings, key events, and site visits at the museum whenever reasonably possible.
Remote participation may be used when circumstances prevent physical attendance, but it should be considered a secondary option. Regular in‑person presence supports trustees in fulfilling their duties, understanding operational needs, and maintaining a visible connection with staff, volunteers, and the community we serve.
