Ever fancied yourself a crime writer? Or maybe you just love a good murder mystery? Join us at the Pen Museum for an afternoon of murder, mischief, and mystery-making in this interactive workshop with local crime authors Heide Goody and Iain Grant.
Set among the fascinating tools of Birmingham’s pen trade, we’ll dream up a brand-new crime caper together. First, we’ll dive into the world of loveable amateur sleuths — could our detective be a nib collector, a museum guide, or a stranger with a hidden past? With inspiration from published crime book covers and the museum’s quirky exhibits, we’ll craft a murder worthy of the genre.
You’ll get to explore the museum, snapping photos and seeking out clues to create suspects with tangled pasts and questionable motives. Armed with props, red herrings, and a giant bag of character ideas, we’ll build our own whodunnit from scratch—no writing experience needed!
Will you champion the conniving curator, the bitter tour guide, or the rival business owner? Can you convince the room they’re guilty? Or will someone hand you a red herring and expose your story?
Full of laughs, creativity, inky motives and pen-sharp plots, this is a murder mystery workshop for writers, readers, and curious minds alike.
