Today the whole world honours books – and what are books written with? Okay, thee days it’s mostly computer keyboards. Yet the greatest works of literature ever written were first done by hand using exactly the kinds of pens we have here in the museum.
We don’t use the word ‘exactly’ lightly, either. During the time of, say, Jane Austen, it is astonishing how many people were using pens made right here in Birmingham. At one point some 75 percent of all pens in use across the entire world were from here.
Come to the Pen Museum to see our gorgeous collection of pens – and have a go at making a pen nib yourself. It’s not easy, but it is so satisfying.
Then we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that you enter and exit via our shop. Buy yourself a pen and then go write a book, okay?
