Fresh Ink Sessions
May 15, 2017 - 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm£4.50
The Pen Museum is working alongside design students from the Birmingham School of Art to host a calligraphy workshop on Monday 15 May, which will provide the opportunity to try out a number of writing styles and decorative elements.
Some of the main themes that will be explored are:
- Roman rustic alphabet (the most commonly used Roman letters);
- Gothic (textura quadrata) alphabet (relating to Old English lettering);
- Copperplate calligraphy (the most commonly used Italic font);
- A type of graffiti alphabet.
The workshop will focus on using black and coloured ink, using pens with nibs. There will also be some use of acrylic paints and watercolours, applied using a brush. In addition, there will be a chance to create decorative graphic elements, including headers, banners and floral patterns.
At the end of the workshop participants can apply their designs to tote bags; every participant will have something personalised, created by themselves that they can wear and enjoy.
Entry to the event is £4.50 (additional charge may apply for some optional purchases at the session’s end)
Reservations recommended, please contact the museum: 0121 236 9834 / firstname.lastname@example.org
