Crazy Name Calligraphy – Summer Family Workshop

Join us for another fun, family workshop where this week, children can experiment with feather quills, steel pens and ink and learn to write their names using swirly calligraphy techniques!
The workshop will begin in the exhibition space where you will be introduced to a brief history of the pen trade in Birmingham, feather quill to fountain pen to typewriter and be introduced to materials for the day. In workshop room, we will then demonstrate how to use a feather quill and steel pen
Fill a sheet of lined paper with lots of different ways of writing your name,including Big writing, spidery writing, tiny writing, curly whirly writing, wide letters, tall letters, slopey letters, name backwards. Learn some calligraphy techniques, lower case and upper case letters and then practice on paper
Watch a demonstration of how to write a name with calligraphy text as children then write their name using calligraphy text, adding ‘flourishes’ with thick and thin stroke
The Workshop is aimed at ages 7-12. Cost is per child, accompanying adults are free of charge.
